Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Are you celebrating? Tonight I plan to have a date night at home with the hubs but I thought I would make it more of an occasion by setting the table nicely ! I challenged myself to do this with only items I already had lying around the house. Here's what I came up with...

First up I went with a very classic minimalist black and red theme using a lantern, some slate coasters and the salt and pepper pots that we picked up in Thailand. (Not exactly Chinese but Asian inspired!)

Then I remembered I had these beautiful little hand painted cups I inherited from by grandma which I rarely use. I wanted to try and incorporate these but they clashed badly with the red so I did an alternate table using these, some bamboo bowls, and I even found an iron horse to represent the year of the horse (that had been banished to a cupboard for being tasteless!)

Its certainly not perfect (understatement!!) but considering all of these items I had lying around the house I thought it was rather Asian inspired and I hope I have inspired you to give it a go and make an average night into something more special!

Do let me know if you are celebrating tonight and what you are doing.

PS: I cant wait to do this with Annie when she grows up !

Valentines DIY!

I thought I would post this super easy Valentines DIY from In good company blog that you can use to make sweet gifts for your loved ones.  Why not use these as place markers for your dinner parties or as gifts for your friends! These would also make great wedding favours.

Tuesday Tales from the Week.

We are nearly at the end of January already! Where did that time go? I'm quite enjoying the slower pace of life that being on maternity leave brings. My days at the moment are filled with baby groups, country walks and we have just started feeding little Annie! Its also filled with sleepless nights (!) but that's another story! Hee Hee.

Here's what I got up to this week.

  • Took a trip into Soho to see my good friend Will for dinner and admired these fab lights on Oxford Streets - a bit like huge snowballs falling.
  • We went to see the ducks on a cold winters day and Annie went on a swing for the first time!
  • I'm continuing my healthy eating regime and have introduced almond milk on my cereal in the morning. Its much nicer then I thought it would be!
  • Finally we had a lovely Sunday lunch with the family at Loch Fyne. Mussels and champagne - yum!

Chinese New Year Inspiration

Its Chinese new year this Friday 31st - the year of the horse and according to legend the Horse is a symbol of travelling, as well a sign of speedy success because it can give individuals a ride to their destination! I'm a big fan of Chinese food and as you know love a theme so i thought I would put together a few ideas if you are planning an impromptu celebration!
  • The Chinese consider red as their lucky colour so any celebration features red in abundance! Perhaps you have a few red napkins left over from Christmas or red candles that you can dig out.
  • Consider using orchids or bamboo as a centre piece.
  • Use Chinese takeout cartons or mini bowls (as below) and chopsticks on each place .
  • A cute favour would be a little horse figure sprayed silver or gold.
  • I love the idea of using glitter dipped fortune cookies and these mini umbrella name places.
  • Make Chinese lanterns - Here are a number of great tutorials!
  • Serve traditional food or get a takeaway!

Or download these fab printables from Birds Party here.

I hope I have inspired you to get your friends over for a Chinese new year celebration this weekend! Check out more inspiration on my Pinterest board.
Happy Monday!

Tuesday Tales from the Week on Thursday!

Sorry about the lack of posts but turns out that a weekend with a baby in tow equals utter exhaustion! Couple that with a trip to the hospital for Annie (nothing too serious thankfully!) and that means a lack of time for blogging!

Anyway we had a lovely week! Here are the highlights!

  • My clever girl Annie started to sit up !
  • Carrying on the healthy eating with some clean eats - this is teriyaki salmon, broccoli and brown rice.
  • Taking a trip to Bristol to catch up with my old flatmate and good friend Lauren. We took a walk around Arno's Vale Cemetery  So picturesque and interesting.

Five Months Old!

Annie turned five months last week! I know everyone tells you it goes fast but honestly its ridiculous! She is such a sweetie and brings so much joy to our lives.

A Chi Chi Affair
This month she..

Celebrated her first Christmas (with a huge amount of toys!) and slept through New Years !
Is rolling from her back to her front all the time!
Is putting everything in her mouth.
Loves sitting in her bumbo to watch mummy cook.
Is making some very funny sounds with her lips and loves squealing!
Is growing out of all her clothes super fast - I think she may be tall for her age (like her daddy!)
Can almost sit up with a little help from a cushion.

Happy Thursday!

Tuesday Tales from the Week!

Hi all!

Hope you have had a lovely week. We've been getting back into our daily routine this week and I've quite enjoyed it after the madness of the festive season.

Here's what I have been up to...

  • Reading up on weaning Annie - how is it that time already! It goes so fast!
  • Annie wearing her new blue coat which was a present for Christmas!
  • I received this beautiful Kate Spade photo frame from a good friend.
  • A beautiful sunset on a late afternoon walk.
  • Eggs for a leisurely breakfast at Daylesford Organic.
  • These white roses feel so fresh in my kitchen.

Winnie the Pooh first birthday!

Oh look at this super sweet "Winnie the Pooh" first birthday party that I found on Onto baby blog. Its so lovely and I love the vintage feel with the old books and the natural textures in the wood and the bunting. The party favours for the children were sweet little honey pots filled with goodies (great idea!) and the adults received honey dippers with a small jar of honey. The theme even extended to the food with the pooh characters cut into sandwiches! Love this!

This actually reminds me of when I went to Brownie camp when I was about 7 and we had a Winnie the pooh theme and had to search for real Eeyores tails in the hundred acre wood! (A wood behind the hut!)  It was so much fun! (True story!)

Happy Monday!

Spotlight on Yellow!

I have noticed a lot of yellow in the shops recently and although its not a colour I would normally choose to wear I've found myself thinking about purchasing something to bring a pop of colour to my wardrobe. I wasn't sure whether it would work with my hair and skin tone but I had a bit of a google and it seems if you keep the make up natural and pair it with something understated it seems to work.

Here are a few of my top yellow picks for this season!

A Chi Chi Affair
1. Yellow sweatshirt. £19.99 H&M.
2. Palermo Wallet. £49. Boden.
3.Polka dot dress: £35.99 Zara.

5.Nike Air Pegasus trainers. £70 &OtherStories.

Tuesday Tales from Christmas!

So I realised that I hadn't shared any pictures from Christmas so I have done a little round up of the highlights. It was mostly a very family orientated first Christmas for little Annie, seeing both sets of parents, siblings, cousins and giving and receiving lots of gifts (mostly toys for Annie!) and eating lots of lovely food.

Perfect really...

Vintage Museum Wedding

To try and cheer everyone up from this awful rainy weather we are having I thought I would post some fresh wedding inspiration for you from this vintage wedding in a museum! (Special Congratulations if you got engaged over the festive period!) I particularly love the invitation suite printed on real vinyl records and the pops of red in the flowers, on the tables and in the bridesmaid dresses! How cute are those favours too?

You can see the whole wedding on Ruffledblog here.
