Wedding Wednesday - My Make Up trial

So last week one of the tasks on my to do list was to have my make up trial. Booking my make up was actually one of the first things I did (once we have the date and venue) and after looking around a lot of blogs and magazines. I found Kit Hall from Slap Artists.

I was quite nervous about my trial especially as I wear quite a lot of make up day to day and I know what I like. I also didn't want the typical bridal barely there face either. However, as soon as I met Kit my fears were allayed as she was truly lovely and we chatted like old friends.

She asked me what kind o f make up I wear day to day and we settled on some brown/golds on the eyes, a few false eyelashes and quite a strong lip which should hopefully match the flowers. She managed to accentuate my features and create just the wedding look I had in my head. Its hard to visualise with the dress and hair but I'm trusting my instincts that it will all come together on the day. Fingers crossed!

BBQ Party!

There is nothing that my man likes better than a BBQ (or Braai as he is South African) and because of the scorching weather we are having I couldn't resist posting this BBQ party with free printables that I found on Hostess with the Mostess Blog just in case some of you are hosting your own summer party!

I particularly like the red and yellow colour palate of this party which is perfect for men, women and little ones too, it looks so much fun! And there are so many lovely details like the BBQ place card holders that you can make here. The printable stationery also includes drinks flags, cupcake toppers, napkin rings and even place card holders!

Union Jack Cupcake Topper Tutorial

Happy Thursday All!  Can you believe next week is the Queens Diamond Jubilee and that the Queen has been on the thrown for 60 years? It really is incredible!! In the UK we get an extra day off so its a four day bank holiday - Woop!

So I found this pretty cupcake topper on Birds Party Blog by That cute little cake that you can make for your cakes so you can celebrate and toast the Queen in style! The cakes would look so  lovely to take along to a jubilee party!  Or how about making a giant one to top a sponge or fruit cake! Very regal!

Will you be toasting her majesty?

Wedding Wednesday: My Kitchen Tea

A couple of weeks ago as part of my wedding celebrations and to signify the fact that I am joining a South African family,  my soon to be sister in law threw me a kitchen tea!  For those of you that don't know what this is, (as we don't have them in the UK) its a little bit like a bridal shower where the guests give you kitchen implements as gifts! Its really popular in South Africa and Australia.

So my kitchen tea was thrown for me in the most gorgeous little tea and sweet shop near where I live and I have enclosed some pics of the lovely decor there.  It was attended by the mums, (Mum and Mom! - note the different spellings!) both sister in laws, my sisters and some close friends who live locally. It was so lovely! We gorged on sandwiches and scones and sweets and I got so many lovely presents (a few of which you can see here) but also things like tea towels, a giant cupcake mould, cake tins, recipe books, measuring jug, cake slice, cookie cutters, jelly moulds!  Basically lots of useful kitchen items that are just so nice to have!!  The best present though had to be a book where everyone had contributed their favourite recipes.  It was such a special sweet and thoughtful gift! I love it and will treasure it forever!  Here are a few pics!

Vintage Travel Precious Cargo Baby Shower!

Happy Monday All!  Look at this super sweet "precious cargo" baby shower that I found on the Hostess with the Mostess blog which is a collaboration between Two Bird Studio and Eye Candy Event Design. There are tons of gorgeous details here like the dessert table in tones of white, blues and greens with a hint of red and the travel inspired stationery and the bunting made from maps which is such a clever idea. I think this is one of my most favourite baby showers I have ever posted!

Details like the retro luggage, the scatter cushions and the use of the wooden vintage furniture keep the look luxe.

Friday Home: Zara Flower Cushions!

Hi everyone!

Florals seem to be all over the shops at the moment! I went shopping yesterday and tried on lots of lovely flowery dresses and I purchased these shorts from Zara that I am dying to wear on honeymoon! So its no surprise that this has spilled over into home decor too. In mu opinion no one does (non grannish!) florals better than Zara Home where than are an abundance of botanical patterns!

Cushions are such a great way of introducing pattern into your home and these cushions are some of my favourites.

I adore the summery look of this pattern against the white background. It looks very elegant!

Zara Home

I love the shape of this cushion and the busy fun pattern. The pink and lilac together is so summery. Gorgeous for a little girls room!

Zara Home

This cushion reminds me of a painting! These would look so stylish against an all white sofa or crisp white bed linen!

Zara Home

This one reminds me of holidays and its actually called the Palm Beach Cushion! I love the digitally printed pattern and the pink and orange too!

Which one is your favourite?

Some cute Etsy finds!

I thought I would post a few cute finds that I have found around the web recently!

I love a paper coaster - they add the finishing touch to any table and so when I came across these YAY ones (which is one of my fave sayings!) from ruffhouseart on Etsy I knew I would post them!  Super cute for any celebration, I adore the pop of yellow against the white as well - they would really brighten up your home.

I also really like these modern maps from These are Things. Each map is printed by hand in the USA and is silk screened in two colours  with a limited edition of 100. Obviously this London one is my fave and I love the bright red but but there are some great USA ones as well. Definitely worth a look. The London one is available here.

Wedding Wednesday: Menu and Drinks Tasting

So there seems to be so much happening at the moment I'm actually struggling to write Wedding Wednesday without giving too much away!  I had my gorgeous Kitchen Tea on the weekend (more on this soon!)  and also last week we had our drinks and menu tasting.

This is the dining room we will be having the meal in and this is also where we did the tasting which as you can see is such a gorgeous space.  It was a lovely experience and made me visualise much more what it will be like on our wedding day. Its such a bizarre experience to think that next time I sit in that space I will be married. :-)

First we got to choose and taste the pre-dinner cocktail for the ladies which was more difficult than it sounds as all three were so tasty and I'm a big cocktail fan so I wanted to get it right. Then we got to try the canapes which were presented so beautifully and then the starter, vegetarian starters, mains, vegetarian mains, and desserts. It was actually much more difficult than I thought it would be, partly because everything was lovely but also partly because it would be difficult to try and please everyone and I have all our guests dietary requirements and likes and dislikes stuck in my mind.

We also tasted the wines and although we don't know much about wines - all six were very nice so it was a tough decision. We hope our guests like them!

This week I have a hair trial and I am having my first dress fitting so lots to write about next Wednesday Wednesday!
