Friday Home: Inspirational South African Cottage

There is something that I cant quite put into words about this cottage in Stellenbosch, South Africa that I found via The Pretty Blog. Its so beautifully rustic and although not my normal style, I really love all the details. H2B is South African so we have been there a few times and I think there is a very distinct south african style, very clean, quite minimalist with lots of earthy tones. Very stylish.

Look at the crisp whites of the bed, thats the look I am trying to go for. I love the drapes - they are so romantic and look at the patterns on the floor... They really break up the space and add interest.

The natural textures here are really striking and the mobile adds so much interest. I also love how ther perspex of the lamp clashes with the wood.

This is such a great room. Again I love all the natural textures! The flower pots lined up in a row looks very chic!

Painting Eggs for Easter

If you are looking for a cute Easter make how about these painted eggs that I found on the gorgeous The Sweetest Occasion blog. I thought they would be lovely as a surprise for your loved ones on Easter morning. Or maybe you could do an egg hunt for the little ones where you then make them into boiled eggs for breakfast! That would be so much fun! Either way they look so pretty that I couldn't resist posting them! For the full how to click over to The Sweetest Occasion here.

Wedding Wednesday : Table Numbers

I'm now starting to clarify all of the stationery for the wedding but one of the things I have not yet finalised are the tables numbers or names.

I'm veering towards the classic numbers 1-8 for the wedding. I like these black and white ones below.

And these with different symbolic numbers on.... That is such a fun idea!

Or should I go for metallic like these silver ones from BHLDN.

I like the idea of the freestanding gold ones!

Tuesday Tales From the Week!

Phew this week was super busy as it was the culmination of a big event for my day job and I was working most of the weekend. I'm looking forward to some relaxation this week and then a couple of mini breaks as well. More details soon!

This shot was taken at 0730 on Sunday morning outside The National Gallery overlooking Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column. You can see the blue skies trying to peak through.. :-) Oh and there's the London Olympics countdown clock.

A Chi Chi Affair

The event hospitality was held in The Royal Society and this was taken on terrace looking up at the beautiful building! Look at that sky!!

A Chi Chi Affair

I managed to get an hour in on Saturday sitting in the garden, Look how the Camellia is blooming. I am loving the colour and are those some late snowdrops?

Starry shabby Chic 1st Birthday!

Look how lovely and gorgeous this Shabby chic 1st birthday party is. Pretty lovely right? I found it over on the ever inspirational Kara's Party Ideas and its by One Sweet Day.  There are some gorgeous details and I love the pretty pastel colours! There are some great ideas to steal such as the fabric strips around the mason jars and that burlap runner with the flowers placed in different vases around it. It looks so effective. The star food pics are cute too!

Friday Home: Duchess Grey Tea Biscuits

Oh how there is nothing I like better than a cup of tea. I always have at least one cup a day (many more on some days) I find it so comforting and homely.

On a different note I find items flavoured with tea quite sophisticated and these Duchess Grey (like Earl Grey but flavoured with orange and lemon pieces) tea biscuits are no different. I found the recipe over at the gorgeous blog Cake and I thought they would be nice to make for afternoon tea or perhaps as an Easter Gift.

Table Place Ideas

With Easter approaching you might be planning a big Easter dinner for all the family so I thought I would share these cute place ideas for your table that I found on Once Wed which has some gorgeous ideas for all celebrations.

First up how about using a paper bag to write your menu on. Such a quick and budget friendly idea and the brown paper looks so chic...

Once Wed

I like using natural textures on my table and this simple sprig of rosemary looks really stylish and is such a simple idea.

Once Wed

Finally, and this is my fave idea - try picking up some plastic animals and spray painting them and then attaching some cute labels. I wonder if you can get Easter bunnies!!

Wedding Wednesday - Hair Accessories

I think I may have talked about hair accessories before but now I'm refining my choices I thought I would share where I am...

One day while searching Etsy I found these absolutely gorgeous headpieces by Mignonne Handmade. I think they are so stunning and the below pictures are some of my favourites,  however for me because I'm wearing a full length veil and a statement necklace I think I need to be a little bit understated with my hair...

Then on a day trip to The Designer Wedding Show with my good friend Sarah we stumbled across the Emmy Shoes stand - they also do some gorgeous hair accessories and I particularly liked these flower clips. They were so pretty and I loved the intricate beading.

However I've decided that, as gorgeous as they are - they just don't go with my dress and really wanted something with a bit of gold in. I actually couldn't find anything I wanted but kept going back to the beautiful designs at Mignonne Handmade. I decided to email to see if they could make me a few bespoke hair clips and they can!!!   I promptly placed an order and I'm waiting for them to arrive. they are to have pearl and gold centres to tie in with my necklace...

I promise I'll share when they arrive!

Tuesday Tales from the Week

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Hope you are having a nice week! The weather is definitely getting better here, so much so that I got to wear my new nautical print jeans out on the weekend with heels and no socks (It's the small things! :-) )

Here are my Tales this week!

Saw this lovely arrangement of cushions in John Lewis Home while picking out some curtains for the bedroom. Love all the bright colours!!

A Chi Chi Affair

We had lunch at the pub and I couldn't resist snapping the wrapping on my burger. You know how I love a stripe!!

A Chi Chi Affair

Managed to get out in the garden and do some weeding! It was really satisfying! I just wish the weeds wouldn't keep growing!

Have a great week!

Beautiful St Patricks Day, Gold, Pink and Green Shoot!

Oh I do love a styled shoot and the colour combination of green, pink and gold really struck a chord with me in this feature that I found over at Style Me Pretty by Shawna Marie Styling. I would never think of mixing green and gold but it really works and it proves that if you get the styling right then any colour combination can be super chic!

Unsurprisingly I am loving the flowers - those beautiful pinks are so pretty and the combination of carnations, roses and ranunculas is just divine! The green stationery looks so bold against the pretty pinks.  Gold glitter, those gold charger plates and that amazing gold cake are just some of the glamourous details that tie in so well with the colour scheme.

Friday Home: Our Bed

Now the bedroom is nearly finished I'm thinking about what to do with our bed. We have a king sized wooden sleigh bed that we are thinking about staining white as below. I love that slightly distressed look, it has such a calming feel.

http://www.sleighbedcentre.com/

We're also thinking about getting a mattress topper. We stayed in a hotel in Spain last year and the beds were so comfy. When we asked at the front desk there, they said they had mattress toppers. Have any of you tried them? I know they are common place in Scandinavia...  The White Company do some so I'm thinking I'm probably going to invest.

The White Company

I've always gone  for colourful duvet covers but this time as I'm going for a serene pure look so I think I might go for white maybe with some sort of subtle print like this one from Zara Home below.   I would also like a woollen blanket for the end of the bed. Isn't this one with the bird print from Primrose & Plum so lovely - I love the Nordic Feel.

What is your bed like? Do you like my ideas?

Wedding Wednesday - Bridesmaid Dresses

As I blogged about yesterday, last Friday I went bridesmaid dress shopping with two of the bridesmaids. It was a successful trip - there seemed to be lots of coral and pink dresses in the shops and we tried on lots of  dresses! As the bridesmaids are all wearing different dresses we had to give some thought to the tones of  corals and pinks used as some were more on the orange side of coral which which decided was a bit too bright and some on the brighter shade of pink also looked wrong.

Here are some of the contenders that were tried on.  I wont be giving away the actual dresses but can you pick your favourite?
