A Black and White Christmas

I found this great Christmas soiree over at Birds Party via P is for Party which proves that Christmas doesn't have to be just about red and green. This is a great colour palate - so chic and modern and I love all the sparkly! It would also be fabulous for New Years Eve or engagement drinks I think.

The great thing is that the entire printable set is available from Birds Craft Shop and includes invitations, party labels, stylish drink tags for champagne flutes, favor tags, thank you labels, candy jar labels, and some customisable templates. Totally worth buying!

Happy Tuesday

Dreaming of far off places!

Brrr - we've just had the coldest weekend in the UK for a long time! I didn't want to leave the house and my mind couldn't help but dream of far off places!

Thailand is one of my favourite holidays ever - we went in 2008 and cant wait to go back.  We love staying at design hotels and this one called Indigo Pearl in Phuket was one of our favourites places so I'm going to share with you some of the design details...

The hotel is inspired by Phuket’s tin mining past and Indigo Pearl’s architecture and the decor evokes a Thai factory of a century ago.   It has an industrial chic meets Thai vibe using materials such as rough timber and sleek polished metal, and a palette of ochre and rouge.  It had such stunning lighting and tiling
The rooms with the industrial details such as the light fittings and dark wood were beautiful and there was so much attention to detail. In the bathroom even all of features such as the taps and the water glass fitted with the theme and i love the splashes of red and green which lighten the dark palate and the use of texture, those white cushions and that wood work well with the industrial headboard.
It makes me want to go back!

Fabulous Friday Food : Pin wheel biscuits!

I remember making these as a little girl,  possibly at school I think, so when I stumbled across the recipe, they immediately reminded me of my childhood.

I also think they fit well for a birthday party as they look so fun! You could even pop a little lolly stick in and make them like biscuit lollipops or try experimenting with different colours.

Here's the recipe (from BBC Good Food)

BBC Good Food

Ingredients (Makes around 40 cookies)

25g cocoa
200g unsalted butter , at room temperature
150g caster sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
300g plain flour , sifted

1.Cream the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer, or use a large bowl with a hand-held electric beater. Beat in the vanilla and egg, then add the flour. Beat until smooth, remove from the bowl, halve the dough and beat the cocoa into one of the portions using a mixer. Shape both dough portions into rough oblongs. Wrap in clingfilm and chill for 30 minutes until firm.

2.Roll out each dough to £1-coin thickness, trying to keep the oblong shape. Put the chocolate dough on top of the white dough and trim the edges to neaten. Roll up lengthways like a Swiss roll, then wrap in clingfilm and chill for 45 minutes. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.

3.Slice the dough into discs as thinly as you can, put them on a non-stick baking sheet and cook for 15 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Happy Weekend everyone!

I love Zara Home

I love Zara Home - like seriously love it! I even like the smell of the shops so much I purchased the exact home fragrance that they have, so my home now smells like the shops!?  (Hmm maybe i shouldnt admit that??!)

I thought I would share with you a few of my fave entertaining items that would be a great addition to your christmas table and a few more besides.

First up this beautiful table cloth and matching linens - this is a total show stopper that would make any table look super glamourous!  And it doesnt obviously scream christmas so you can use it all year round as well.
I actually have these wine glasses but in a sligthly different print and I love them! I normally use them for water rather than wine but they can also be used as dip bowls, dessert bowls for mousses and ice cream and even vases.

These snowball shaped candles are so cute. They would look great lined up in a row on your table

I do love a napkin ring and Zara Home always have great ones!  I'm loving these festive but elegant metal reindeer ones.
If you need a bit more space around the table - I am absolutely loving this tray and stand. In fact I'm hoping its on my christmas list! ;-)
Have you got your eye on any new decorations for your table this year?

With so many holidays coming up, Thanksgiving for those of you in the US, Christmas and New year.  I'm guessing that everyone is doing a whole lot of entertaining at the moment, and its great to know a few tricks to make your table look really great.

I love using Napkins in my table decor,I tend to use coloured paper ones for more informal dining which can add some great colour and pattern to the table. Here are some of my favourites available at the moment.

Koloni Apples Paper Napkins by Lotta Kuhlhorn

If you are using fabric napkins the way you fold them is super important as it can make or break your table. I say keep it classic (no fancy swans please!) and I found this great tutorial for a kimono style napkin fold over at 100layercake. Click to go to it here.

How lovely is that yellow and white napkin - I would be scared to dirty it!

One of the reasons that I love this napkin fold is that its such an elegant way to display your menus.  It also looks great if you tuck in the fold a flower, some herbs or even a little favour.

Check back tomorrow as I'll be sharing some of my favourite menu templates that you can use for your dinner parties.

Fabulous Friday Food

Happy Friday everyone!
You know you have those recipes that you always come back to, staples that you love, that you make on a Sunday afternoon for tea, that everyone thinks is yummy.

Well for me this is one of the those recipes...

Its not pretty, but it is comforting, it is warming and it's totally perfect for the kind of wintry weather, we are experiencing in the UK.

Here is the recipe (Courtesy of Jamie Oliver!)

Olive oil
150g chorizo sausage, finely chopped
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 clove of garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 sticks of celery, finely chopped
500g fresh spinach, washed and chopped
8 fresh tomatoes, deseeded and roughly chopped
1 x 410g tin or jar of good-quality cooked chickpeas, drained
1.3 litres chicken stock
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
55g pata negra, Spanish ham or prosciutto, finely chopped  ( i often use bacon)
extra virgin olive oil
2 hard-boiled eggs

Put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil into a large pot and add the chorizo. Allow to heat up and cook for a couple of minutes until the fat comes out of the chorizo, then add your onion, garlic and celery. Turn the heat down and cook slowly for 15 minutes with a lid on and without colouring the onions. Now take the lid off – the smell and colour will be fantastic. Stir it around and get some colour happening now. Add your spinach, tomatoes, chickpeas and chicken stock. Bring to the boil, then lower the heat and simmer for around 40 minutes.

At this point you can remove about a third of the mixture and purée it in a food processor. Pour it back into the pot, give it a good stir and season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and stir in the pata negra or ham and 2 or 3 tablespoons of good Spanish extra virgin olive oil. Divide into bowls and grate some hard-boiled egg on top. The egg was a bit unexpected when I was given this in Barcelona, but it actually adds a lovely richness to it.

Honestly you must try it - it's delicious!

Its also perfect for a Saturday lunch with some crusty bread and a green salad.

If you are starting your christmas shopping...

I love Etsy and I found this great seller called 1canoe2 - a design duo from Missouri selling some fab paper items which would be great Christmas presents.  Here's my favourites...

First up these letterpressed holiday coasters. They are packaged beautifully and are the perfect holiday hostess gift.

Next are these great recipe cards which would be an ideal gift for any keen cook. They come in a sweet custom wooden box made in the sellers Dad's workshop! How lovely is that? This is a true one-of-a-kind heirloom item - I can imagine this being passed down through generations. Also this would make a lovely wedding present from mother to daughter or friends to the bride. I would love to receive this.
The cards are also available without the box to keep postage costs down too. Have a look here

Finally I am loving this calender which you can frame for your wall. I think this is such a clever idea as this looks so much more chic than a normal calender, featuring an intricate floral pattern on top and bottom. It is sure to brighten up any space!  Its also available in a teatowel too.

Right I'm going to start my Christmas shopping now!
